Conversation in the farm office.
Tomorrow, then. You will let them go.

The letter is late, but fair enough spoken.

They must go to school, and here as well as anywhere. Better, if the assurances regarding the Headmaster are to be believed. These Wizards have shown us their good faith this far, we will watch and see if it continues.

Twelve days it took for them to release you, and another for those in Azkaban.

But we were released. And those in St. Mungo's received adequate care. Allies, not friends; it will do.

You and Edyta will take Klara and Jacek to Hogwarts tomorrow, after breakfast. Go via floo, as the letter suggests. See them secure in their dormitory before returning. Then glamour yourselves, new faces, and exit by way of the main gates, returning by Apparation. You know what to look for. Any weakness he can use must be blocked as soon as possible, before he realises the children have returned there.

Understood. Their request for brooms?

Klara's request, you mean? Yes, two of the older Razorwings. Serviceable brooms, and old enough that the missing markings will not raise comment.

She'll be pleased. She hasn't been on a broom for almost two weeks.

They know the rules, and if she tries something like that again, I'll take her broom away myself. But her skill should be cultivated. She may have need of it in earnest some day.

Not far, but yes.

And we have inherited more pressing problems. One hundred and six other more pressing problems.

You've seen the ledgers. He never planned to support even half that number with the farm.

I saw. It is well for us that Gareth and Aubrey have shepherded the business so well. And that you moved so quickly to lock him from the accounts. With economy, it could be done.

The question is not can it be done, but should it.

*a pause*

We have the numbers for five, even six large packs. 10 original, and 13 children.

You and I, Caius. Danica, perhaps, if she can be persuaded. And one or two of the newer. But how to divide the resources? And the children? Separate them so soon after losing Adeladja?

*a pause*

The property is not at capacity for flock or herd. It is possible to build a separate farm and share the grazing land, but is that advisable? Or to sink assets into purchasing additional land here?

Some might choose to leave and create their own, smaller packs.

Fade away as if they'd never been brought forcibly into the pack? Anything is possible. But I do not like their chances of standing against a challenge by Fenrir. We could find ourselves matched against them, a siege laid against us by those we have trained.

No, if any were to do that, then they must be monitored and supported, guarded until it is clear until they are strong in more than just independence.

And to this I do not even consider those who might welcome his return. I will not speak ill of the loyalty of any one of these wolves who have fought and risked death for the pack, but the choices they would make for themselves may not run with ours.

For one. He followed him in the first war. He was Beta for the first pack. And he, even more than Danica, inclines to a natural Beta.

Fenrir did not leave many who would aspire to Alpha.

No. I can only assume he kept us alive out of ego. And a job to do.

I have promised every one of them in word and deed and vow, a home and a future. It is my responsibility to see it done.

We will do it. A rotation to the encampment will keep numbers here more manageable. Although beds of their own here would do much to improve morale.

Two additional dormitories and a kitchen facility, and an outbuilding for baths and privies. It will be done before winter. We do not lack for hands or wands, at the least.

You know you do not have to stay.

You would let me choose who I may, take what I need from the coffers, and strike out on my own. I know. I've waited this long, I can wait a little longer. I agree we must have a plan, or he or someone else will come along and tear us down. Too many of our people are known to the Ministry now, even with this amnesty.

We are stronger together.

It's the pack way; strength in unity. They will follow you and you will find a way. Until then, we remain vigilant.

*a snort* Ridiculous healers tied me to the bed and clucked every time I was awake for more than five hours. I've more than enough of that for a lifetime.

If you want proof of my strength, I can demonstrate it in the yard before the pack. It would do them well to be reminded.
